ＯＬＰＣは手回し充電ではなく、ペダル充電
ネグロポンテ氏が率いる「The One Laptop Per Child」ではインド、中国、ブラジル、アルゼンチン、タイ、エジプト、ナイジェリアの子どもたちに500万～1000万台のノートPCを配布したいと考えている。
この100ドルノートPCの新プロトタイプがLinuxWorldで発表された。
スペックはAMDの500MHzプロセッサと128Mバイトのメモリ、HDDの代わりに512Mバイトのフラッシュメモリを搭載。液晶画面は太陽光の下では1110x830ピクセルの白黒モード、その他の場面で640x480ピクセルのカラーモードとなる、2つのモードの使い分け。内蔵のメッシュネットワーク機能を利用して、すべてのマシン同士がリンクされる。
以前に紹介したイメージでは手回し式のハンドルが付けられ、これを回すことで発電するようになっていたが、マシン本体にひねりが加わると悪影響が出るおそれがあることから、ペダルのような何らかの発電の仕組みをACアダプターに取り付けることになるという。
OLPCでは、このノートPCを2007年に135ドルで発売し、その後値下げして2008年には100ドル、2010年には50ドル（４年後に約６千円）で販売することを目標にしているそうです。
コンセプトはeMateに近いですし、この値段ならオモチャ屋に売ってる子供用ゲーム機と同じ価格帯。爆発的に普及しそうです。期待したいですね。

お久しぶりです。
デザイン相当なかわりようですね。新旧どちらもよいですが、アダプタに発電機能が移ったのがちょっと残念。持ち歩く時は本体のみで完結してほしいです。
そろそろインターフェイスなどのソフト面も公表してほしいですね。
本日ニンテンドーDSliteが我が家に来たのですが、驚愕の文字認識精度です。そしてゲームによっては縦にして観音開きで使うのもとても柔軟。こういう物を作る人たちがPDA作ったら、ユーザーライクで使い易いPDAを作れるんじゃないかと思いました。

さいさん、久しぶりです。
ニンテンドーDSliteの文字認識は評価高いみたいですね。文字認識に関して言うと、Windows Tablet Editionも認識精度は非常に高いんですよ。走り書きの汚い字でも、結構読み取ってくれます。
ただ、やはり「認識機能」なんですよね。「ユーザーインターフェイス」にまで枯れていない。
このあたり、下記サイトを見ると面白い議論が持ち上がってます。

上記の新しいデザインでもハンドルは残っています。
ペダル充電になるってことは更にデザインが変わるってことなんですかねぇ。
