Intel から Ultra Mobile PC
CNET-Japanより。
米国時間3月7日、Intel Developer Forumで「Ultra Mobile PC」のプロトタイプが発表された。
これは機能をフル装備した低消費電力ミニタブレットのサンプル製品で、オリガミ・プロジェクト用の特殊なWindows XPの稼働が可能。
ポケットサイズ、タッチスクリーン式の7インチディスプレイ。標準的x86プロセッサと超低電圧チップを採用し、WindowsやLinuxを含むx86版OSを動かすことができる。
近い将来、1日使用可能なバッテリ駆動時間と500ドルの価格を実現できる可能性があるとIntel は述べている。
オリガミ・プロジェクトのWeek3では、このIntelの発表を受けて、Windows XPにのみ対応するオリガミ・プロジェクトの最終的な詳細を9日に明らかにする予定のようだ。
Intelの行ったテストでは、この端末が忙しい母親層にアピールすることも分かっており、想定していなかった市場の発展が期待されている。
バイブル手帳サイズに見えるけれども、アメリカ人が持っていると想定すれば、大きさ的には Newton MessagePad2000とほぼ同じ。
過去に色々と論議された「使いやすいPDA」は、やはりサイズ的にはこれくらいなのかもしれないです。
Linuxも動かせるということですから Ultra Mobile PC 上で NewtonOS を動かしたくなりますね。

Linuxも動かせるモデルが出るなら、これはもう買いでしょうか。多分こっちの方が安いだろうし（w。タブレットみたいな物は、Linuxだとドライバがどうなるんだろう？とかいった心配もありますが、パッケ−ジにして出してくれれば心配も無用でしょう。
まだ詳細をチェックできてないのですが（HPがむちゃくちゃに重くなってました）、CPUのスペックはどのくらいの物でしょうね？
