クールなタッチ・インターフェイス
山本さんのコメントから頂いた記事です。
ニューヨーク大学が、コンピューター用のタッチパネル・インターフェースの実用レベルの試作品を開発。試作機はMacOS-X上で動作し、マルチポイントのタッチ操作に対応している。
とにかくこちらのページのデモビデオがすごい。
まさにマイノリティ・リポートの世界だ。
"Broadcast yourself" ということなのでビデオごと掲載します。圧巻。
（リンク先がメンテナンス中の場合もあります･･･）
AppleのパテントFigにあったように指の操作で地図を拡大し衛星写真に切替えて、さらに拡大していくデモ。Google Earthを手で回しているようで、「世界はオレの手の中にある」って感じ（笑）
やっぱり出たね。
画面上のレコード盤をDJ気分で操作するデモ。
たとえば、iLifeのユーザーインターフェイスとして、このマルチポイントのタッチパネルがあったら、どうだろう。
ソフトウェアキーボードを、ごく普通にタッチタイプし、入力された文字の移動や装飾を指先で手軽に行うデモ。
文字認識にこだわらず、こういった方法もアリだと思う。
デモを見る限り、的確に人間に追従しているという印象で、きっとユーザーは気持ちいいだろうね。

UIがコンピューターの中の世界と、現実の世界をつなぐものとすると、究極のUIはコンピューターの中と現実の境を取り外すもの、と感じました。まさにそれを（現状で）具現化したもの、という感じがしますね。光を操り、水をちぎり、地図を取り回し、テキストを振り分ける。自分としては、「思考」をするためにこのUIはとても有意義だと思います。
Newtonを使って考え事をしている時みたいにね。

ホントそんな感じです。
Newtonとそれ以外のPDA（という言い方は不遜かもしれないけど）の大きな違いは、思考過程をキャプチャするために使えるかどうかなんだよね。
「ええっと、これをこうするためには、まず･･･」なんていう引っ掛りがなく、人間の思考を「つまづかせない」インターフェイスとでも言えばいいのかな。道具を使っている、と感じずに目的を達成できるという感覚です。
このタッチUIは、そういう点でNewtonに似ていますね。
ボクは今もNewtonにこだわってますが、Newtonを超えるエクスペリエンスができるタブレットMacを期待してます。
