AIBOの製造中止
ロボット好きのボクにとってショッキングな情報が飛び込んできた。
かつてない緊縮経営のソニーがロボット分野に見切りをつけ、AIBOを製造停止する。開発途上の人間型ロボットQRIOも同様だ。
新しいテクノロジーを次々と開発してきた部門であり、製品であるだけに惜しい。この気持ちはAppleがNewton部門を切り捨てた時の気持ちに近い。あの時はNewton-incとして一旦はスピンオフしたが、AIBOの場合、現在のロボット市場を考えると、そのような採算の合わない冒険はできないといったところだろう。
幸い我らがNewtonコミュニティには、先日のWWNCに見られるように、世界に今もユーザーがいて、熱い気持ちをもったデベロッパー達がいる。
AIBOについても熱いコミュニティの輪が広がってくれることを期待したい。
